Volunteers are at the heart of Okehampton Food Bank. By giving a little of your time, you can make a real difference to local people and families experiencing hardship.
Whether you’re helping visitors during our Thursday morning sessions, sorting donated food, preparing displays or supporting our community activities, your contribution will be valued.
You don’t need previous volunteering experience. We welcome people with different skills, backgrounds and abilities, and we’ll provide guidance and support to help you settle into your role.
Interested in joining our friendly team? Complete the application form below, and we’ll be in touch to discuss how you could get involved.
A Warm Welcome
We want every volunteer to feel welcomed, valued and supported. Before starting, we’ll introduce you to the Food Bank, explain how our sessions operate and discuss the activities that best suit your interests, skills and availability.
Induction and Training
All volunteers receive guidance appropriate to their role, including food safety, safeguarding, confidentiality and treating everyone who visits the Food Bank with dignity and respect.
Safeguarding and DBS Checks
The safety and wellbeing of everyone using our services is important to us. Depending on the responsibilities involved, safeguarding checks, including a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check where legally eligible, may be necessary. We will discuss any relevant requirements with you.
Confidentiality and Respect
Volunteers are expected to respect the privacy of everyone who uses the Food Bank and follow our confidentiality, safeguarding and respect policies.
Flexible Volunteering
We appreciate that everyone has different commitments. Whether you can help regularly on Thursday mornings or occasionally with other activities, we’d be pleased to discuss opportunities with you.
