The Okehampton Food Bank provides weekly food parcels to those in immediate need, without judgment and regardless of faith or background. Operating under Christian principles, we aim to assist all experiencing food insecurity by helping our neighbours. However, we rely entirely on donations from the generous surrounding community to fulfil this mission.

A small monthly donation of just £1 from each Okehampton family would make a significant impact on poverty, allowing us to help many more in need. In addition to financial contributions, we are also grateful for the food donations we receive and our wonderful volunteers.
We have forged strong partnerships with our local supermarkets, whose staff and customers provide us with crucial support. We are especially thankful to the amazing team at Waitrose Okehampton, as well as Rotary International Okehampton, another steadfast supporter. These partners offer us valuable advice, financial assistance, and organize food collection projects, particularly at Christmas.
We receive bi-weekly food donations from Lidl, which helps stock our shelves. All the donated food is distributed to the hungry in Okehampton. When we have a surplus of a particular item, we try to transform it into something new for our repertoire. Last year, we converted hundreds of kilos of apples into jellies and chutneys. We also turn porridge into flapjacks and oatcakes, ensuring nothing goes to waste. If we can’t use a donated item, we pass it on to the Community Fridge initiative, which aims to reduce food waste.
The Okehampton Food Bank welcomes inquiries from local businesses interested in supporting our work. Any contribution – financial, food donations, or volunteer time – helps us fulfil our purpose of providing for those experiencing food poverty in our town.
